Today we had a lovely school celebration at St. George with Father John. Do you remember the theme of the year? It has something to do with a backpack.....
We are all on a journey in life. Throughout the year Father John and Father Pedro are going to share with us the tools we need to put in our backpack to get to our ultimate destination... HEAVEN.
Father John's backpack had the crucifix inside. The best tool first! We need to follow the teachings of Christ. Let Jesus' light guide you every day.

Math
The main ideas to study for this test are in Lessons 1, 2 and 3 in your yellow math duotang. How do you study for math tests? Start with questions you did incorrectly or had difficulty with. Redo them. Do practice questions on the blog. Ask a parent to make up questions like the ones in you did in class. This test is about representing numbers (not graphing).
Grade 4 must be able to represent numbers different ways up to 10 000
Grade 5 must be able to represent numbers different ways up to 100 000
Pick a four or five digit number. Represent it....
- in words
- standard form
- expanded form (2 ways)
- base ten blocks (3 different ways)
Rename it using....
- ten thousands, thousands, hundreds OR tens
- ten thousands, thousands, hundreds, tens AND ones
Remember when we trade....
1 ten thousand = 10 thousands = 100 hundreds = 1000 tens
1 thousand = 10 hundreds = 100 tens
Using a place value chart may help you. You are welcome to use the anchor charts and materials in class.
Your test will be on your desk when you come into the classroom in the morning..... write your name and start.
When you finish, there will be a list a assignments to finish including stem and leaf plots grade 4, broken line graphs in grade 5 and cheque designs. Have an idea of how you would like to decorate the background of your cheque.
Literacy
Today we wrote a complete answer to a main idea question. We used APE format:
Your first assignment will be writing the main idea of one of the books we have read this year with a partner following this format.
