Math
Today we talked about fractions of a set. This is another way to represent fractions. The denominator is the number in the entire set and the numerator is the number you talking about (e.g. colour, shape). We also talked about expressing fractions as DECIMALS. If the denominator is either 10 or 100 it can be expressed as an equivalent decimal.

For example 4/10 = 0.4, 35/100 = 0.35

Homework (both grades):

Express the fraction below six different ways like we did in class.
Language
We began our discussion of Media. The fourth strand of Language is Media Literacy. We talked about the following today:

We watched the video you watched in Music class, "A Pittance of Time". Here is the link if you'd like to share the video with a parent:

Tomorrow we will watch another Remembrance Day video and identify the audience, purpose and message.

Science
Tomorrow is your Habitats test. Think about the following questions (hint, hint)....

  • Why do plants and animals adapt to their environment?
  • How are living things INTERDEPENDENT in a habitat?
  • What is the difference between a behavioral and structural adaptation?
  • Why are decomposers so important? What would happen if all the decomposers disappeared?
  • Why is the beak of hummingbird different from the beak of an eagle?

Chess
Another fun chess class. Today you used the rook. How are the rook and the knight different?
Remember to bring your order form back next week if you would like to purchase a chess set.
