Art
We got a great start on painting our Gustav Klimt quilts. We will probably need one more class to finish the backgrounds of the quilt pieces. Lots of soft quilt colours were made by making tints.

Phys. Ed.
Once again we welcomed Ms. Friedrich to teach us about bocce. We will be having a bocce tournament over the next week.

Science
We talked a bit about the city of Sudbury today. What happened to Sudbury in the 1970s? What did it look like? What did the community of Sudbury do about it? This is a picture of the same place!

Sudbury, like many cities in the Canadian Shield is a mining community. Some of the factors that lead the city to become BARREN included:
  • Cutting down trees to dig mines
  • Removing the soil when digging mines
  • Pollution from the processing of the ore (water, land and air pollution)
The damage was so extensive (BAD)  that humans had to actively try to fix the area. This included:
  • Planting trees (non-native and native trees) and plants
  • Returning soil to areas that were just exposed bedrock
  • Reducing pollution from processing minerals

Make sure you are practicing your argument for your debate on Thursday. Remember you have to speak for 30 seconds each time.

Think of an endangered species that you would like to find more information about.

Math
Today we practiced counting my decimal hundredths and finding decimal hundredth numbers between decimal tenths. The trick was changing decimal tenths to the equivalent decimal hundredths.

Try these. Write a decimal between:
5. 1 and 5.2
0.8 and 0.9

See if this link works:

More practice changing mixed fraction to improper fractions and vice versa.

Here is a video link explaining how to change from one form to another:
